Pat True was a nerd, of course. His laugh, his endless
knowledge.. his run. It was fairly obvious in all of his activities.
All of them, that is, except one:
"Your dad's a real dork, Jay," they would say, "but man can he
dance!"
It was probably my dad's dancing in good part that is responsible for
my entire association with him, and watching my ma and pop lose
themselves among a crowd of wallflowers has been, so far, the best
instantiation of 'love' I've been able to find.
'Old Time Rock & Roll' was Pat's favorite song, and not only because
it's a good dance tune. Somewhat more important, I think, is his
identification with its message of celebration in remembrance.
